Diocesan Offices
Below is a description of the
services that the diocesan office provides. Please feel free to
visit the ministries listed below for more information and who to
contact for additional assistance. Our goal is to serve the
Catholic Community, and we thank you for visiting our website.
Tribunal
The Tribunal is the
judicial branch of the administrative offices of the Salina Diocese.
Under the authority of the diocesan bishop, the Tribunal has the
responsibility of hearing and deciding those legal matters which are
assigned to it by the universal/general law of the Church (the CODE OF
CANON LAW) or delegated to it by the Bishop. In the United States, the
Tribunal deals almost exclusively with cases involving the bond of
marriage. It receives and investigates the petitions for declaration of
invalidity of marriages, according to the norms found in book VII,
“Processes” of the 1983 revision of the CODE OF CANON LAW.
Religious Education
The office implements religious
education policies of the bishop and the Diocesan Council of Education
for both Catholic school and parish religious education programs on
every level from early childhood through adult education. The
Office of Religious Education provides leadership in the design and
implementation of programs for adults, youth and children to assist in
building a solid foundation for adult spirituality, Christian living and
ministry. It also sponsors Cathechist Rallies, Religious Education
Coordinator meetings, and various workshops and facilitates the Diocesan
Cathechist Certification Program
Catholic Education
The goal of the education office is
to foster an environment of support and co-ordination for Catholic
schools, their principals, faculty and students. It also seeks to
maximize opportunities for quality education in a Catholic school
setting.
Liturgy Office
The liturgy office exists to help people in the diocese to pray, to
offer guidance in the proper celebration of the sacraments, and to
assist the bishop in his role as leader of the church at prayer.
Youth Ministry
The Office of Youth Ministry assists
the Christian community in ministering to, with, by and for youth. Its
goals are: fostering the total personal and spiritual growth of youth
and young adults; and drawing youth and young adults toward responsible
participation in the life, mission and work of the faith community. The
office provides resources, retreats, rallies, conferences, camp,
training and in-services.
Diocesan Planning
The Executive Committee on Diocesan Planning
fulfilled its mission at the end of 2007. Bishop Coakley
inaugurated a new Diocesan Planning Commission on May 22, 2008.
Finance Office
The Finance Office
is responsible for the financial activities of the Chancery Office. This
includes the collection of all accounts receivable, payment of bills,
investment of funds, and financial reporting both internally and
externally. The Chief Financial Officer also coordinates legal and
insurance matters.
Values in Relationship
Values
in Relationship is
a family communication weekend for youth Grades 6-9 and their parents to
explore the topics of developing sexuality and moral decision making.
The program is offered in parishes throughout the diocese at their
request and at a time that works into their schedule of activities. Values
in Relationship is firmly based in Catholic teaching and is recommended
by Bishop Coakley as supporting parents in fulfilling their serious
responsibility to teach their children about their faith and their
sexuality.
Rural Life
The Rural Life Commission serves the mission of the
church by promoting the care of God's creation and the welfare of the
people who depend on it.
Society for the Propagation of the Faith
The Society was
established to assist missionary Bishops of Africa, Asia, Latin America
and the far Pacific in the gathering of funds as a means of support.
This office facilitates this support on a diocesan level.
Vocations
The
Vocations Office provides direction for men and women in answering God's
call to priesthood or religious life.
The Register
The Diocesan newspaper, THE
REGISTER, is published weekly. The Editor is Doug Weller.
Ecumenical and
Inter-Religious Affairs
This office serves to foster
ecumenical and inter-religious activity between the Diocese of Salina
and non-Catholic religious communities.
Information Technology
The
Information Technology Department is responsible for the coordination
and maintenance of all computers, networks, websites and application
programs used by the Chancery staff. These resources enable Bishop
Coakley and his staff to provide access to information that is easy to
use as well as a means of promoting all Diocesan ministries. |
